Writing a Blog - Is it Necessary for Quilting Businesses?

I'm sure you've probably heard of blogging--maybe you even did some back in the day?

Do you need it for your quilt-focused business?

The quick answer is yes, yes you do!

Your goal should be to drive traffic to your website, and blogging--especially with evergreen content--is a great way to ensure that customers can find your website via a Google search.

What is evergreen content?

Evergreen content is content (blog, video, etc.) that someone can find this month, next month, or even ten years later and still find useful. It's not limited to a specific time.

Some quick evergreen content ideas for quilters and/or long-armers could be:

  • Machine maintenance

  • Quilting design ideas

  • Listicles, like your top 5 tips for getting out of a creative rut

  • A video tutorial like a how-to construct a specific quilt block

Some examples of non-evergreen would be:

  • Showing off a specific fabric line. After 3-6 months, your customers won't be able to find it!

  • Notifications of sales or events

What about something like a tutorial for a Christmas Ornament or Halloween quilt? This WOULD be evergreen content but expect that your customers will be looking for something like that in a seasonal manner.

How do I determine what to write about?

Keyword research! A keyword is a specific word or phrases your customers will search for via a search engine.

Think as your ideal client--what do you think they'll be searching for? What are their pinch points? Brainstorm some ideas and write them down! This way, when you're feeling stuck, you have many ideas documented you can refer to.

Experiment with Google's autofill to brainstorm ideas of what to write. Look through what's trending in Google Trends! Look at what people are asking about via Answer ThePublic.
